Mario Draghi is the head of the European Central Bank. With the debt and economic crisis looming dangerously over several crucial European nations, the power Draghi wields is formidable.
One observer, Franklin Allen, professor of finance at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business had this to say about Mario Draghi:
“In terms of unelected people, he is by far the most powerful in the democratic world. He’s going to have huge influence over bank supervision and over the purchase of sovereign debt, whether he’s the head of the committees in charge or not.”
Also commenting on Draghi is the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy F. Geithner. He has known Draghi for over ten years.
“He is calm in the face of the storm, and he sees the world as it is, not how we’d like it to be,” said Geithner.
