Are you too busy to send flowers; write a poem; or even wait on hold? Ted Roden, the founder of Fancy Hands personal assistant service management might be just the thing you need to get your life back under control and concentrate on the important things you need to get done.
When Roden was in his 30s he was still working for The New York Times in the research and development department working on News.me. He was also in the middle of authoring a book, and he had a new baby in the house.
Time was so precious with so much going on, that Roden could barely get it all done. He employed people from Craigslist to help him out with much of the more menial of his daily tasks, like helping him to schedule meetings; make dinner reservations; and other jobs that were contributing to his crazy life.
That’s when the idea of having one company available to supply all those simple jobs that just get in the way of true productivity, not to mention sanity, came to him. In April 2010 Roden began serving customers willing to pay for such assistance, and the company has not stopped growing since.
Today Fancy Hands has seven employees and Roden is soon hiring more. He has thousands of customers who pay a minimum of $25 per month to have simple tasks completed including the delivery of flowers, the writing of love poems, and even helping out with resume writing.
Customers order services in bundles, not individually, or by the hour. Five tasks cost $25/month, while 15 activities will set a customer back $45/month. There is an unlimited task plan for $95, but if you don’t use up all your tasks by the end of the month, they do not roll into the next month.
Investors have shown a strong interest in Roden’s company. Polaris Ventures and SV Angel and others have given Roden $1 million in financing to see this business really take off. Keep your eyes on Fancy Hands, poised to really take off in the coming months.
