Working for Google: Company Focus

Google Inc. ranks number one on oh-so-many lists, so it’s no surprise that they top the list of Best Companies to Work For in 2012 as well.

Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998, Google’s mission is to “organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

The company’s primary focus is user satisfaction. According to Google’s own website, the company strives to provide “the best user experience possible,” without their “own integral goal or bottom line.”

Google Inc., based in the US, is the world’s greatest online search engine, and specializes in cloud computing, advertising technologies and more. Its numerous products today include the Gmail e-mail network, Google Docs, Google+, the Google Chrome browser, Picasa, the Android cellphone operating system and Chromebooks.

Google’s employees have admitted that working for the company is in fact like being part of one big, creative family. The company prides itself as an equal opportunity workplace as well as an affirmative action employer.

According to a review on CNN, “employees rave about their [Google’s] mission, the culture, and the famous perks of the Plex: bocce courts, a bowling alley, eyebrow shaping in the New York office.”

Other big pluses include the food provided to workers; as many as 25 cafes companywide. A Google employee shared: “Employees are never more than 150 feet away from a well-stocked pantry.”
